Getting Started

First things first.


Choosing and reading a pattern

Choosing fabric and notions (thread, buttons, etc) laying out the pattern on the fabric and cutting out the fabric.


The first part of this class takes place at Hobby Lobby (since Joanne's is closed and we now have no other options).  The second part of this class takes place at your house on your dining room table - or any flat su


What you'll learn:  Terms like "on the bias' and why it matters. How to navigate the Hobby Lobby fabric section.


let's sew a bag

2 hrs

if aprons aren't your thing, maybe bags are your bag!


You're going to need a sewing machine for this too.


What you'll learn:  What all (or most) of those buttons on your sewing machine do.  How to read assembly instructions and why they mater (good news, pattern assembly instructions come with every pattern!), tools that you need, and tools that just make sewing easier.

2 hrs

Now that you have all those cut out pattern pieces, lets put it together!


You're going to need a sewing machine for this part.


What you'll learn:  What all (or most) of those buttons on your sewing machine do.  How to read assembly instructions and why they mater (good news, pattern assembly instructions come with every pattern!), tools that you need, and tools that just make sewing easier.

basic mending

1 hr

Don't have a sewing machine?  no worries!  Learn how to sew on a button, hem a pair of pants or fix a torn seam.
